BF2 CAL

Postby DoCFuRy[12PC] » Aug 2nd, 2005 at 4:41 pm

I was just wondering how many people play BF2 enough to be interested in CAL?

Just curious.

I havent played bf2 yet, but if its like bf42 then its going to be weird. i never actually understood why people would want to play it in competition.

I would play too - my specialties include

using a cracked copy so I can only singleplay

forgetting to switch specialties until the timer runs out

accidently switching from auto fire to single fire then forgetting how to switch back.

not being able to change maps without restarting the game

crashing helecoptors

that is all

IMO, games like BF2 and BF1942 are more conducive for competitive play due to the way the game is set up. You have a large field of play, but can still get to the opposite end in a relatively snort period of time with the vehicles. Matches would tend to be more dynamic than some of the other competitive games out there. The only difference is, the Battlefield series would be a better competition with larger teams (more than 5 or 6 per side).

I will play, but only if the team has skill and serious dedication :( My old clan is kicking ass in CAL right now, but I just couldn't bring myself to play unless they get real serious. They spend to much time playing WoW to be as good as we once were.

My specialty is: using what ever kit is needed, filling gaps in flag coverage, strategy, squad leader. I also run an ATC BF2 server for my guys here if you want to check it out:

65.38.9.25:9646 (if you guys want to use it for strats let me know and I'll give you admin to it)

I also run a Teamspeak server on the same server if you want to use it.

Here is what ATC looks like for those of you who haven't used it:

ATC is a live shared marker board for planning BF2 strats. There are also versions for other games. It is an absolute must have for BF2 match play planning.

10-15 person teams would be needed imho, I love the game for play with my friends in an full server but I dunno how well it would play in a match.

the 16 player maps are perfect for 8v8 competition. I don't know what size maps they are using for 12v12, but if its the 16 player maps that would be cool. The 32 player are too big for 12v12 I think.

Glad to see i'm not the only one who hates that lol.

Does anyone know if you can bind the weapon fire mode to its own button?

I wish there was some way to make the weapons default to semi-auto, cause damn the M16 isn't worth a shit on burst fire.

To the best of my knowledge, you can't do that, but if you want to be able to cycle weapons like CS w/o using the mouse wheel, here's the key mapping:

Code: Select all

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PINextItem IDFKeyboard IDKey_Numpad7 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPrevItem IDFKeyboard IDKey_Numpad9 10000 0

This uses numpad 7 and 9 to cycle up and down through weapons. To switch between single shot and burst, I toggle up or down really quick then right back and select -- so much faster than the mouse wheel. I know, I'm a pimp with the configs. 8) The binds are uneccesarily complicated, but they're not impossible to figure out.

That said, I wish I could commit to play CAL BF2, but like CS:S, I just can't make the consistent time commitment. :?

Well I am going to play this season CSS cal but I am interested in running/starting a CAL HF BF2 Team afterwards. I havent talked to K2 about this so it may be up to him. I dont think he will have any druthers against it, but for the sake of courtesy, I will discuss it with him later.

I would be interested in a 12v12 but I have a feeling we would need to start at 8v8 just for the fact we dont have enough players. Anyway. there is at least interest drummed up over this, more to come in the future. I think we have plenty of time to discuss this since they are just starting the first CAL season of BF2.

Hell ya a HF bf2 cal squad would kick some ass. Really I can do everything, from flying a helicopter/jet *dont expect any good from my jet though..* to the Anti-Tank which I use the most. I can plant C4, repair a tank/artyl, revive a soldier, give ammo out, and even just assault their asses like the pros. I'm an all around jack of all trades. As I like to say ..

I'm an Anti-Tanking Medic with C4 on his Wrench.

Ridiculous jet piloting skills. Great medic, sniper, antitank, and engineer.
