There's my system! Thought I'd share my upgrade with you. :)

edit: messing with overclocks still. video is now up to 490/1200. updated video benches.

edit: fsb is now 275 for 2.75ghz - memory speeds increased to 230 (benchmarks from 6.2 to 6.5GB/s yay!) Video tests also increased a bit. (almost 100 more 3dmark05 marks and more than 2500 more AQ3 marks with this small 5mhz fsb increase!)

Nice Oreo ;)

Question about that dual-core opteron - when you say 4x HT (hypertransport), that's really saying 2x HT per core correct?

Damn, its starting to annoy me that my fan controller and the fan on my heatsink thats inside my computer without a window glows and keeps my room not pitch black. Your computer is a damn lamp.

4xHT * 270mhz = 1080 * 2 = 2160mhz

Chipset 1
Model : Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Athlon 64 / Opteron HyperTransport Technology Configuration
Front Side Bus Speed : 2x 1080MHz (2160MHz data rate)

Opteron transport data rate. Not a dual core thing, or X2, it's Opteron.

edit: jeng haha, those are closeup pics for effect. from far away it looks like a dark blue light that only goes a couple feet towards the wall. The extra light in the first pic on the wall is from my desk lamp.

Nice Oreo. If you get some time post some high quality images. I get the picture, but i know it looks sweeter than those pics let on.

K2, any chance we can get a brag board? Maybe a seperate section in the Pictures area for pics of our rigs and shit?

Sure, my brother has a VERY nice digital camera I can use when he gets home from work.

Also, where did you get the light tubes and hows the heat output on them? I'm intirested in getting some, but not if they heat the case.

those lights put out almost 0 heat. and you can get them anywhere including newegg.com

The cables are UV reactive round cables, the lights are UV cathode lights with temperatures so cold you can hold them after hours of use and it feels like.. touching something slightly warmer than room temperature. (most likely my case heating them up other than my lights heating up the case).

They're pretty cheap, I got 2 UV colored ones for $5 from http://www.coolerguys.com/caselighting.html

you can also buy cable sleeving kits (which I would have done if I hadn't already put everything together and don't want to open it back up). They wrap any cable you feel like wrapping in your case so it's rounded instead of braided, plus they can be UV reactive just like my IDE cables and light up in your case with UV lights. :)

1 major upgrade every 3 years isn't being rich, it's planning... better than buying shit every year :P and paying $3000 for 3 years.

New benchmarks with 275fsb OC, 230mem and 490/1200 video OC

Now at 280fsb. 234 memory. 2.81ghz

Memory Speeds:
6640 MB/s Int
6574 MB/s Float

CPU Arithmetic:
25288 Dhrystone
11696 Whetstone

CPU Multimedia:
52653 Integer x4
57935 Float x4

edit: sweet but I couldn't run any benchmarks without rebooting. most likely not enough voltage, but I don't feel like going higher right now. i will probably try it later after I've "burned in" at this voltage and speed. I increase the voltage slightly at the same speed and it should allow me to hit a more stable OC at 2.75ghz.

In other news, I tried out the NGO 82.12 nvidia drivers and so far I have to say they're stable. Not a huge increase in benchmarks, but games noticed a big difference. I went from 212.50 to 234.75 in the CS:S video stress test.

Why 2GB of memory and why dual core?

Posted: Jan 13th, 2006 at 3:23 pm
by Oreo
faster load time in games, battlefield 2, multitasking, games will be supporting dual core now and in the future. (quake 4 already does, other games are following now with patches, so in effect I will have 5.5ghz running speed in games with dual core mode enabled) overall faster computer speeds. I run mirc on one core and CS:S on the other so I don't notice lag when my scripts are running in the background in mirc.

I would say great jobs if the pictures weren't so fucking shitty. Eh, what the hell, good job man.

its too bad Oreo refuses to play on HF :( I miss the skill he brought to CS and I figure its bound to follow him to BF2...if not now, then eventually :)

In fact cat, i did play in the HF bf2 server today. I helped get it started from 0 players up to 12 players but I couldn't stay. The server wasn't keeping track of my stats correctly for some reason. At first I had 0 unlocks and it said I was a private, so I disconnected and reconnected then I had all of my unlocks... and I was still a private. I even got a basic special ops award (when I already have both in basic SF and in reg BF2).

I figured it wasn't keeping track of my stats correctly so I left because I didn't want to play for a few hours and then have nothing to show for it when I'm trying to unlock things. I might try it again in a day or a little later but it wasn't cool. People were more friendly this time though...

sometimes it happens to me regarding the unlocks. You just have to log out of your account and then rejoin a server. EA's lovely code they aren't fixing for us...

exposed sides and uv lights = nerd so unattractive. I jus want a simple box. aluminum box. nothing more or less. can't even get a external hard drive enclosure without stupid lights.

:p I did it for my own enjoyment. It even faces the wall and if you want to see it you have to get on the floor on your side and look in haha. I just like the idea. I built my dad's box to be fast and quick, (a64 3000+ single core, x800pro @ 2.5ghz) and his is how you like it. Quiet, black and sleek aluminum case with nothing special.
