Ubuntu

Postby Catharsys » Jun 27th, 2007 at 9:19 am

So I've installed this OS on my old hardware after getting my new computer up and running. After a few hiccups with failing components I've installed it. Fun parts were terminal updating and installing nvidia graphics drivers, finding out why my wireless card wouldn't register with my router, and now setting up mythtv with my tv tuners.

Ubuntu is pretty nice as far as free *nix OS's.
It's one of the most viewed/downloaded OS's on www.distrowatch.com, extremely popular.

I got an ubuntu mythtv box up and running within 40 minutes. Recording and everything. The only part that took a bit was the LIRC to get my remote control working. I love it. :)

Yeah my dying mobo causes a lot of problems. Loss of keyboard, USB ports dead, IDE channel iffy. Plus my old setup is extremely loud, so I would have to modify that.
