WinXP tip o' the day

Postby K2 » Dec 27th, 2002 at 6:48 pm

Got winXP? Do ya hate how it forces you to use it's own version of manipulating .zip files, sometimes even after you install winzip? And that when you try to browse a folder with a lot of zip files in it, it'll take forever to open?

Fuck MS.

Do this... go to start --> run --> type regsvr32.exe /u zipfldr.dll and hit enter, then answer yes to any questions posed. BAM, no more annoying windows zip bullshit.

Enjoy :shock:

And if winXP is still giving you headaches.... Just go to the 'Run' command and type "format C:\" and that should clear it up really fast:)

Sounds Like a Personal Problem!!

Heh... for some reason it always messed with me. I'd install winzip 8.1, everything would be cool for a few days, then out of the blue windows version of zip would take over again. BLEH.

I have both installed, for the simple fact that a lot of my friends that need archives made have an easier time using winzip. If I forced winrar on 'em, I'd have to deal with 'I dont get this' stuff ;)

Sick of only being able to download 2 files at a time?

Open regedit. Goto: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Internet Settings]

Create two new DWORDS and modify their values to whatever you want (I use 10)

MaxConnectionsPerServer
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server

And you're done. You can now download all 6 parts of that p0rn movie at the same time!

Tip of the Day:
How to speed up Firefox:

Open Firefox and on the address bar write about:config and hit enter

find the string
network.http.pipelining
double click and change the value to true

find the string
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
double click and change the value to 34

find the string
browser.turbo.enabled
double click and change the value to true

If you use a proxy, it's best to set proxy as well in that screen.

Close firefox and restart. Things should start drawing a LOT quicker now - especially over broadband.

yay! FF definitely starts up faster. Will have to browse around a bit to see if everything is improved. Thanks!

Resuscitating a very old thread...

To get rid of the zip file handling built into Vista (or Windows 7), follow these steps:

    Open the Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
    Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID
    Delete this key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E88DCCE0-B7B3-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31}
    Delete this key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0CD7A5C0-9F37-11CE-AE65-08002B2E1262}
    Restart Windows (the change won't take effect until you do).

The thread title says WinXP, not Vista or Windows 7. Stay on topic please. :)
