ooops

I screwed with regedit because windows update was not working. I forgot to make a backup first. Now I have to type in http://www. before I can go to any websites - weird huh. Also, I can't find my computer to do restore point...help!

Oh man... what possessed you to mess with the registry just because windows update wasnt working?

To be honest, I am not sure where to being in the registry to get both of your issues working. And the probability is great that other things that you havent found yet are also broken.

What did you do *exactly* in your registry... what did you change/edit/delete/add?

ahhh - found system restore and went to Oct 13th - all is good

I was changing permissions per MS FAQ suggestions to make updates work - but that was fubar advice obviously. Well, no worries I solved about 3 problems with 2 restores, so all is good. "my computer" was not accessable though - which was a tad scary LOL

lesson - system resotre is your friend.

Lesson - dont go fuckin with the registry, esp until you make a backup first :P
