.htaccess IP blacklist updated

Postby K2 » Jun 27th, 2011 at 12:23 pm

Hah shit :) Last time I updated the IP address blacklist for the site was awhile ago. Tons of new entries since then. Bots were starting to make a comeback recently, so it was time to update.

The list, which is updated on a regular basis, can be found here - http://www.wizcrafts.net/chinese-blocklist.html - and there are links to other lists from that page.

This doesn't make the site hack-proof by any means, but it is one more layer of protection. And you'd be surprised how many web admins don't do this

Been getting a LOT more bot/spam activity over the last few days. Luckily I've been catching them rather quickly. All but a couple have come from China (two were from India). I'm somewhat convinced that it's not so much a bot or script as it is a real person that's able to break through the anti-spam questions and then spamming whatever ads or data they're being paid to spam. Bleh.

Anyways. IP blacklist updated. Again. Let's see how long it holds up before I have to update it again ;)

Yeah, I didn't mention a month ago or so I actually just completely disabled registration on my site, site wasn't meant for traffic anyway but I got tired of denying signups (few months before this switch I changed over to approval required, probably within the same month of my last post on this thread).

Yeah I know :/ Gonna revisit this on the weekend. I might just disable registration temporarily, we'll see.
