OK so we're back up again. If you were wondering wtf was up with the site for about an hour, the dbase server that the HF website uses was down. That pretty much killed news, msgboard, voting poll, game stats, etc. I gave our webhost a call and they were already workin towards a resolution.

So obviously, we're back up. This is not the end of days. Yet.

Damn... who's that?

When that happened to Hardgaming last year is when I started doing a daily backup of all of our databases. If anything happens, we'll never lose anything more than a day tops.

mainly a virus would try to download on page load. before it would redirect to "you've been hacked.." think we are changing hosts soon.

Well, we were down again for about 90 min... I called my host (again), and they said that 'something was filling up the /var folder on the server my website/dbase resides on' and that they were trying to pinpoint the cause of it.

I share a server with X number of other accounts, it's possible somebody is executing something they shouldnt be and fucking things up. Or maybe a site is being hacked. I dunno. Anyways, we're back up again, and if worst-case scenario happens, I have backups of all our dbases, along with the contents of the entire site.

When you want to move hosting companies to a better host... let me know. I'll hook you up. :)

actually hostrocket has been extremely good to both K2 and myself - and they are less than $10/month for unlimited bandwidth with 5GIG storage, so that is hard to beat. I was with 6 different hosts before I switched 5 years back, and I love HR.

Rgr that... seriously, this is only maybe the 2nd time in 4 yrs that anything has gone wrong, and it's not like any data was lost.

2nd time? Wow.... ok, the host i run hasn't had an unplanned mysql outage in let's see... since we started? I'm sure there have been a time when that's happened but we've caught it faster than 6 hours..... anyways, i digress.

My hosting company has a bigger penis than your hosting company. ~pyrox420

My company hosts our corporate clients out of Illinois. Have yet to have any sort of problem with it.

Yet being the key word. NOTHING has 100% uptime or zero defects. At some point, some component will fail or a script will be coded wrong, and you're going to feel the pain.

depends ... i keep my stuff on proven, stable releases. I won't upgrade my server until what i'm upgrading to has been tried and tested.
