DAoC - Back when it was good

Ya ya if you read the Aion post i said I was going to play DAoC again. There are free private servers out there that actually maintain a population. I stumbled upon one called Uthgard. Its a classic server (Pre New-Frontiers). Check it out at

And I suppose you have to have your client copy of DAoC right?

Na you d/l the trial game from mythic

D/L the server portal software

D/L the ruleset for your particular server that you want to join.

Uthgard has an active admin staff. You are not even allow to buffbot and they are vigilant on enforcing that, keeping the playing field pretty even.

And K2 the site that distributes the server portal program explain how to run your own DAoC emulation server. I'm tinkering with that as well on a box at home.

I think I'm gonna jump on this. Can't decide between leveling a SM or a Skald, or leveling 2 toons at once just to make it easier. I will be playing pretty much daytime only, but I have to find out whether the anti buffbot policy is pvp only or game wide. I guess playing daytime only on a euro server isn't all bad, since its their primetime.

Uthgard is a German server iirc. And DAoC isn't the same there, nowhere near the same as what it was back in the day. No-buffbot is game wide, there are buffer npc's.
Actually the real DAoC is now basically 1 server (it's still a large listing of servers but they are all combined and you can travel between each of them as it was when there were clusters, just 1 big cluster now). I never personally found the quality in the private servers that there was on the real servers.

You need our classic patch to participate! If you do not have installed it yet, get it at http://www.uthgard-server.net/downloads/uth_classic.dmm and install it with DAoC Portal -> Modmanager.

If you want to defend your own lands, just go outside of a borderkeep and the frontiers will be in front of you. If you wish to attack enemy realms, you will have to check your borderkeep for a medaillon merchant. These merchants sell magic medaillons which will allow you to be teleported to far away lands by using the ancient power of the circle teleporter in your borderkeep. You will have to equip those medaillons into your necklace slot to use the teleportation magic. Often the teleportation masters gather at the platform and hold their ceremony. Of course you can use their magic to get into the battlegrounds or other locations, too. Do not forget to re-equip your own necklace after the teleportation!
If you decide to fight in an enemy region, you might want to get back or travel to another realm's region. There are circle teleporters in the portal keeps, too, who will teleport you.
Remember: You cannot bind in enemy regions. If you die and release, you will return to your last bindpoint.

Uthgard is a classic freeshard which emulates live server state before 1.80 with no ToA/Cata/DR/LotM stuff. Buffbots are NOT allowed. You may log in only one account at a time! Violating this rule may cause a permanent ban.
Noone from Uthgard Staff will ever ask you for your password! Don't use the same login/password combination on other freeshards!

I use AIM and MSN, but half my buddies refuse to switch so i run both, or just use trillian, depends on which pc im on

Did they make any improvements to DAoC like gfx/textures, bug fixes that Mythic never did, make crafting times shorter, etc?

I am debating on giving this a shot :shock:

OK, I have the game, and rolled a dorf warrior named 'Kaytuu' (no surprise eh?). I applied the classic patch... any other patches I should get?

Nads is Tajendi, which is their custom area.

You can get Classic mod (and it will tell you so when you log in if you don't have it):

I made a character but haven't really played yet, was thinking about messing with the buttons for hf some more, but I didn't get home until real late last night, and I've had a bad headache all day today.

Well I made 20 last night, and 500 Armorcrafting, so I'll be spending my next session leveling up my tailoring so I can make chain armor. If you need anything sub 20 that I can make, post your order here and I'll make it and vault it so you will have it ready. I've been soloing red/purple mobs with upgraded gear on, so we might as well make this as easy as possible on ourselves.

Is it time to re-form the HF guild? ;) Also, when the time comes and we start doing raids and group lvl grinding, we should get on ventrilo.

I can spend some time on weapon crafting. Gonna log in now and do some serious leveling.
