Morrowind

Postby Campsalot » Oct 14th, 2005 at 9:43 am

I have been thinking about picking up the Morrowind GOTY edition for the PC. Anyone ever played this or any of the other Morrowind games that can tell me if it is worth it?

Morrowind is a sweet game, but GD is it LONG!!! There are a shitload of side quests that can keep you lplaying the game for easily 100+ hours. If you want to finish the game, stick to the main quest line.

Also, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is coming out soon, so you might want to hold off and pick up that one.

I'd wait for Oblivion like Widow said. Morrowind is huge and not that interesting if you stray from the main quest. The Mages guild has some nice rewards if you plan on being a spellcaster, the thieves guild IMHO is only useful for paying off bounties the quests can be annoying especially considering the crummy rewards. I never really followed the fighters guild so I can't comment on that. Items you make will be much greater than the items you can find (certain artifacts are an exception). If you do get it, look into the mods for the game, lots of people have put work into improving certain aspects of the game (like making mages more viable, making unarmed combat fun with a monk "class", etc.

As the resident morrowind expert, I would say yes. However I would also agree with wid as it takes a while to get into the game. The mod scene is so huge with morrowind that by the time you got all the essential ones, you have about 5x the original game in just mods. If you'd like to know the backstory of whats going to be going down in Oblivion, pick up morrowind. Still, it has 1000s of hours of gameplay, well worth $20.
