Haha, that's just one of the things the monk can do. ;) Has every skill unlocked, so anything you think up can be done. =) And.. the reserve is set high per se, depends who you ask. Couple accounts on there that aren't worth half my account went for $200. My reserve is less than that if that helps. Just bid what you're willing to pay. If you don't meet the reserve or get the item, oh well. It helps encourage bidding.

One thing slightly pathetic are accounts on there that are just complete shit compared to mine, at like $100 right now. Guess it's my 3 days left. :p Hopefully I'll get more than 8 bids.

it had 23 bids, and was up to over $240 with 5 hours still left (and the last hours are the most action packed).

Sigh. I am fighting it right now, but who knows. Fucking lame.

Yes, grant found it for me with his browser cache, I contacted him and offered him the account for $250. He accepted it and I sent him a bill on paypal. He says he will pay with direct bank transfer so paypal doesn't get profit from it. =) Soon as I get the money, he gets the password. wheee.

It probably falls under the same category as selling gold and items from MMOs. Since an actual GW account isn't worth more than $50, then the extra money was for virtual items, money, exp, etc. which are the property of Arenanet.

Well, they put it right in their user agreement I found out. They own the account and everything that has to do with it. Plus, they got even more specific and said that all auctions or selling of accounts is forbidden. ;x

You may not market, promote, advertise, or solicit within the Guild Wars game or on the official Guild Wars websites.

(advertised my sale in game)

You may not advertise the intent to or commit the act of buying, selling, trading, sharing, or transferring access to any Guild Wars account.

(which i did)

(c) Rights to Use Accounts. By agreeing to the User Agreement you agree that you do not own either the Master Account or Game Account (collectively, the "Account") you use to access the service, the characters created on the Account and that NC Interactive stores on NC Interactive servers, the items stored on these servers, or any other data from which the servers and accounts are comprised. The Account you create is needed to login to the service as per section 4(b) and the fee that you pay is to access new Chapters.

Basically the loophole is selling the time and effort spent in gaining the items (that's how they sell gold), but since it's explicitely stated that you cannot do shit with your account, that doesn't really have a legal loophole.

Reply from them:

Greetings,

Thanks for writing about this. NCsoft Corporation maintains and reserves the intellectual property rights to all of the content; any disclaimer is irrelevant as any transfer or resale of items or "services" provided in these auctions is strictly prohibited by the End User License Agreement and Rules of Conduct.

Please understand that while we will be working with eBay on a daily basis to remove these sales, this is a long-term process. We are not singling anyone out nor do we favor anyone – all of these sales are unauthorized. We will be making every attempt to stem this activity, and this is the first part of a comprehensive effort to stop them.

We hope that you will respect these rights and discontinue the posting any future such auctions. If there are any additional questions or concerns, or if there is anything else that we may be able to assist with, please let us know and we will help as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time

Nearly every MMORPG has that in the ToS/EULA in no uncertain terms. People still sell the stuff all the time though, as long as you aren't blatant about what the sale is, like "FULLY UNLOCKED GUILD WARS ACCOUNT OMG LOOK AT THIS NCSOFT", then usually you manage to sneak by. But yeah, it's a good way to make money if you're into wasting 1077 hours and getting $200 in return >_>

my guess is that they would rather a new player spend 10 months getting to level a billion then being able to buy the accnt and have the person not need to level. Give the new player more time to stick around and not get bored. Also forces a new account to be set up.
