New game server

Postby K2 » Jul 18th, 2007 at 12:30 am

Well, some good news for ya gang. As you know, Boomhauer has been kind enough to host a couple of my server boxes for us. One has been up for a few months now, but of course I havent done much with it, as I've been waiting for titles like TF2 and Crysis to come out. Boomhauer has been doing some major upgrade work at the network center he works at over the last several weeks, and it's gotten to a point to where both of my servers were ready to place on one of the new fat data pipes they're running now.

So... are ya ready? Ping this - 38.101.79.98

Lemme know whatcha get. There's something like 90 Mbps of untapped bandwidth available on that line, so if your routing is good for everyone, we may have a winner. The location is Dallas for those of ya not in the know. The backbone this pipe resides on is with Cogent Communications.

I'll have a second IP up for ya to ping soon. Chances of putting up *something* resembling a game very soon - high.

Because AT&T in Georgia sucks. They're routing you to the east coast before coming back to Dallas. Look at these two:

Code: Select all

10 33 ms 33 ms 32 ms v3492-mpd01.iad01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.3.222]
11 83 ms 82 ms 82 ms v3495.mpd01.dca02.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.5.61]

Hop 10 is in Virginia, and hop 11 is Washington D.C. - AT&T sent you to the cogentco.com router in VA from hop 9.

Don't feel too bad... I get 120ms to it from Hawaii.

I'm not going to run CSS again. When I retired it, it was retired *for good*. Which is a shame really, because SourceMod FINALLY went into public beta mode last month, with version 1.0.0 near on the horizon, and someone finally made a version of ATAC for it. Only took 'em 3 fucking years... *sigh*

Also, this insurgency mod? Been following its global usage over the last few days, and I have yet to see the total player count top 500 at any given time :(

TF2 and Crysis is gonna be our new bread n' butter folks. And I'm really looking forward to TF2, as SourceMod/Metamod is able to work with any game title as long as it's based off of the HL2 engine.

TF2 ftw, imho. It will be able to run on a ton of machines, and will be much more mass market with a large player base. Crysis will not garner a large player base, mainly due to the ridiculous req's to even run the game, much less the question of if the MP is even any fun.

And I'm really looking forward to TF2, as SourceMod/Metamod is able to work with any game title as long as it's based off of the HL2 engine.

liar ;P hf cs is backkkkkk so populate it guys! ill be there

Yeah... I figured 'wtf', plus I wanna see ATAC in action again after all these years.

You'll see a HF css server up on a permanent basis starting tomorrow. Me and miracl3 did a test run earlier this evening. Runs pretty smooth. I'll do an official announcement later.
