Might be moving to Dallas

Sooo, might be taking a job with Amazon in the DFW area. I know some of you guys have lived/worked there in the past. Where do I want to live with a wife and 5 kids? What areas should I avoid? What are some cool things about Dallas? How bad is the traffic?

I'm positive the traffic still sucks... they don't call the I-635 loop 'the mixmaster' for nothing. As far as where to live, not sure. It's been 13+ years since I left Dallas. You need someone like EML to chime in, he's still in Ft. Worth I believe.

Hey buddy! The Amazon jobs are in N. Fort Worth, right? I'm not a fan of suburbs in general, however I'm not sure you'd want to live in the funky, older neighborhoods with 5 kids and have to commute. So, I'd pick a neighborhood that minimizes your commute while putting your kids into a good school system and where you can get a bigger house for good deal. Inventory is very very low in DFW, so rents are also high.

Thanks Brian, glad to see you still check in here. I'll be there Wednesday night, and my interview starts at 7am Thursday. Hopefully I'll get a chance to drive around a bit and check out some neighborhoods. Kids are home schooled, so the school system doesn't matter. I'm looking for inexpensive, but safe neighborhood, though I know those don't generally go together inside the city limits...

Interview went fairly well. Most intense interview process I've ever seen. 2 math tests, 4 separate interviews and incredibly tough questions. Interviews went from 8am to 12:45pm and were practically non-stop.

I should hear something in 5-10 days either way. Don't feel great about it, but who knows. Will report back with the results.

Amazon turned me down too. They are tough to get into. Ran an IT Dept. for several years (last day was today; I quit) with clients such as Facebook, Nvidia, AppNexus, Intel, Citrix, Mongo DB, Zendesk, Toyota, Spotify, HPE, HPI, Salesforce, SpaceX and hundreds more.

But not Amazon... those snobs.

Hey, that makes me feel even better about it.
