Hardfought CGI:IRC script is back

Postby K2 » Feb 10th, 2014 at 6:16 pm

So weird thing today. On a whim I contacted support for my webhost and asked if they would open up port 6667 on the server so I could use CGI:IRC (in the past they have always said no). Three minutes later and it's up and running.

So if you're so inclined, join me (and right now it's JUST me) in our old Hardfought IRC channel via the web-based script at https://www.hardfought.org/cgi-bin/cgiirc/irc.cgi - I'll spend some time here soon to clean up the fonts and put a link to it on the main page.

Hell yea. I'll keep the channel open while I'm at the office. One more thing to stop me from actually doing work.

Haha.
Sweet, now all 4 of us can endlessly idle in IRC again! :P
Ahh, I miss the good ol' days, now it's just the getting-old days.
Speaking of getting old, turned 35 4 days ago....should I expect a mid-life crisis this year?

I am disabling the cgi:irc chat script. I've installed an ajax-based chat room in its place. This is run entirely off of the website, it does not tie in with the IRC channel at all. This chat room integrates with your phpBB3 forum profile, so if you're logged into the site, you're automatically registered and logged into the chat room. Pretty seamless.

Link is here - chat - there's a link to it on the main page under the archive index link.

Awww... I missed out. lol. My rig was down for (quite) some time after I burned out the PSU and needed to wait for funds to buy a new one after paying off holiday debt. I get the new PSU installed and 3 of my 4 case fans are dying... not sure if that's related to PSU burning out or not. At any rate, I just get back up and running and find out that after holding down the fort at #hardfought for years singlehandedly, I miss a visitor. Poo.

Re-did chat again - it's the exact same chat as before, but is now embedded within the main page instead of being external from it. Just click on the 'chat room' link in the header or 'chat' in the sidebar to get to it. Your profile here is still integrated.
