S&W SW1911
Just bought a new 1911. Goign to take it to the range tomorrow and fire some rounds out of it. See how I like it. It's equipped with night sights. Got it for 700 at a gun show. Retail for about 1100. Excluding night sights. Had to get it.

Re: S&W SW1911
Nice. The 1911 fires 10mm right?

Are you serious K2?

Re: S&W SW1911
lol..
What sidearms did you carry, K2?
I've handled the Sig P226 and it shoots.. ridiculously well. Love it.
I have a Kimber Stainless II .45 and wanted to get another one but shorter barrel so I can carry it every day. Was looking for a Springfield Micro Compact, but this will just have to do.

Some Kimber 1911's fire 10mm, there's a nice one at a local gun shop nearby that does. So yeah, I'm serious.
The current sidearm for the army is the M9 which fires 9mm, and it sucks. Only officers carry those usually. All I ever carried was an M4.
Re: S&W SW1911
I've heard of some Kimber's firing 10mm, but that ammo is so f'ing rare. Rare as my f'ing .357Sig. That M9 is shit. Great looking pistol, but was always shit. I'm surprised yall didn't carry a sidearm over there, K2. I didn't know that yall didn't. That's BS. I'm sure you would prolly never use it, but you never know..

Re: S&W SW1911
'We' as a whole did, but only officers and high-ranking NCO's (sergeant majors) carried an actual sidearm. Rest of us just had our M4's.

If I ever buy a gun, this would be it.

Re: S&W SW1911
I'm pretty sure the S&W 1911 has only ever been .45, Kimber is a higher end Custom maker and no way in hell sX would get a Kimber for $700 unless it was very hot or very abused.
I "maintain" a friends Kimber 1911 (in .45) for him cuz he's too freakin lazy to clean the poor thing.
My CZ97-b (.45) has been a perfect darling for me, the second gun I ever bought, still fires quite accurately and it's never jammed even when I used mediocre ammo and it's fairly inexpensive, think I paid around $700 for it brand new and it has a bigger magazine than standard 1911's.

I own a Kimber Stainless II, Timmy. I also got it for 700. However I bought it back in 2005 and was brand new out the box. I can find very good steals these days over here in Tx, Timmy.

Re: S&W SW1911
Yeah, it was also at a gunshow. I didn't buy it personally, but I had my brother buy it. I wasn't 21 yet. Next time you're looking for a gun, let me know
. I'll be more than happy to ship it your way.

Re: S&W SW1911
Isn't the 1911 what the US Navy uses for a sidearm? And sX, I've put over 10k rounds through different M9's through my military career, its a fine weapon, and only lacks stopping power.

Re: S&W SW1911
I think the Navy and Navy Seals use the Sig Sauer P226 in 40 cal flavor.
My experience with the M9 is just that I can never hit shit with it in the 9mm. Even from 10, 15 yds. It just wasn't very accurate and there was no grouping what so ever.

Re: S&W SW1911
The M9 and sand/dust do not play well together, and it doesnt take a lot.
Re: S&W SW1911
Wow, for once me and sX agree on something. Good choice, that's the gun I'd get as well.

Re: S&W SW1911
Thought the Seals used the USP .45, the elite version with the slightly extended barrel with silencer grooves.

Re: S&W SW1911
Hrm.. perhaps they do now. I wouldn't know. But just Wiki'd it and it looks like they used it back in the 80's.
From Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_Sauer_P226#P226_Navy
P226 Navy
Navy SEAL Teams started using the SIG P226 in the 1980s.
The first Naval Special Warfare mil-spec P226 pistols to be offered to the public were the NSW Commemoratives, issued in early 2004. The SIG P226-9-NAVY is a version of the SIG P226 that is produced to the exact specifications of the pistols supplied to Navy SEALs, including special phosphate corrosion-resistant finish on internal parts, contrast sights, and a slide engraved with an anchor to designate them as Naval Special Warfare pistols. SIGARMS raised $100,000 for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation through the sale of these NSW serialized pistols. The pistol bearing serial number NSW0001 was sold during a live auction on the nationally syndicated Laura Ingraham radio show for an additional $25,000.[9]

Re: S&W SW1911
1996 the first mk-23's were delivered to the US military for operational deployment. The mk-23 was the first .45acp pistol to enter US military service since the M1911. I noticed in 2004 both Sig and H&K got homeland security contracts.
Found a blurb saying the USP compact tactical was going the replace the Sig226 as the standard Seals sidearm in 2004, but couldn't find any hard info.
I don't know how you could NOT use the MK-23, it went through the most ridiculously demanding trials ever and passed easily, it's only downside is its a full sized side-arm.

It's an ugly ass sidearm, too. That pistol is huge. It's like the f'ing Robocop gun.

Re: S&W SW1911
You can say that again. Hence Blocks.. I mean.. Glocks. <shrug> Ugliest fucking gun ever. I'm embarrassed to even hold one. Which is why I don't own one.
However..
The reliability on that POS gun is superb. I'm so accurate with it, too. Although I didn't like the .45 GAP. That round is just.. retarded and also hard to find now. Just like the .357Sig.
You're right.. pretty doesn't win fights.. but the 1911 is very close to having it's cake and eating it too.

Its funny, I feel the same about the Glock ugly as piss, but Meat absolutely loves his. Different strokes...
I own a Walther P99, thats my "pretty" gun.
Heya sX whats a 50 box of 9mm and .45 run ya? Ammo has gone up big time here, it's gotten hard to justify taking my .45's to the range, most of my time is spent plinking with my Sig Mosquito (.22LR).

Re: S&W SW1911
A box of .45's (Federal) go for 14.99 and a box of hollow points (Winchester) goes for 18.99. A box of 9mm (I don't own a nine, unfortunately) goes for 12, 13? Last time I saw at Wally world. .380 goes for about 14.99 if I can find it at academy. A box of .357Sig goes for 27 for FMJ's and hollowpoints go for 29. F'ing ridiculous.
