Honda Civic Vs Dodge Caliber

Postby GaMeR{WaS-DeaD} » Jul 17th, 2006 at 8:38 pm

Well i'm looking at these two cars as possibles for my next car. Prices range from 14k to 19k. I like both cars but i'm not sure really. I like the 30/38 or so milage on the civic. Both seem to be great cars. any information would help

Honda lives a lot longer. I'd pick a Jap car especially with a good milage any day. Only downfall is it will be more costly to fix.

Well i like the civic but the caliber was designed by mercedes as well, would that not increase the price of the caliber to fix as well?

so even if it was designed by mercedes for the dodge name u think it still sucks? i keep telling myself it looks nice. The civic does look pretty good as well. on the other hand it's the first year of the car and u won't know how long it might last either.....ah cars...

The new Civic is really nice. Plus I think most car mags easily rank it in the top 5 cars from the last year.

Consider resale value. Who the hell is gonna want to buy a used Dodge Caliber?

That is a good point mav. Resale value would be nice and it's a very nice car. Sat inside one and waiting on a manual for a test drive soon.

Go with whatever you like. Most car guys are extremely biased. Dont decide against a car because someone said dodge trans suck. Chances are they are talking about 1 experience or they heard someone else say it. Do your homework and decide on your own.

dodge is offering a 30 day return policy on all their vehicles, new promotion. I suggest you check the details of that if you think you might like the dodge. I've owned hondas, had 2 accords, and as much as i hate to admit it i dropped 35k on an Odyssey today, and i've been nothing shy of happy with them. The 2 dodges my in-laws own are total crap, but they were both made long before they bought Mercedes. Do your research, and get lots of reviews. If it is a toss up, i'd recommend the Civic, great cars, good mileage, and will last damn near forever.

Resale value > all. Because that basically means you have a good car.

And I'm not a Honda fanboi either. Never owned one ever. But I just know for a fact those fuggers have an almost infinite lifespan.

No never lol. I had a 92' Nissan 240sx at that time.

Closest to owning a Honda, is what I drive now. A 99' Acura Integra GSR.

Just remember, if you take advantage of that 30-day return program, 3 things must apply (as outlined in the policy):

1) the car must be in new condition still
2) you must pay a 5% restocking fee (OUCH!)
3) you must pay $.50/mile driven

Also, consider buying slightly used. You'll save a TON of money and still get a really nice car. Got my truck two years old with only 14k miles on it for less than half the sticker price. That's the way to go!

The reason you get those prices is because american car manufacturers have HUGE rebates and incentives. Its great, cause you can pick up a car for 5k under sticker price, but when you go to sell it, and there are incentives, your resale value will be poo. I just traded in my 2002 ford exploder, cost me 13k 2 years ago, i bought it with 72k miles, and it had 83k yesterday. That being said, my 4 year old vehicle, that cost 25k new, traded in for a measly 6k. At the same time i was there, some lady walks into the dealership(Honda) and asks if they have any Civics or Accords in the 4-5k pricerange. They salesman said it would be at least 10 years old to be that cheap, because they hold their value so well. So definitely take resale into consideration, and even though the rebates might be awesome when you are buying a car, they will kick your ass when you go to sell it.

Honda or Toyota make the best cars, I rely on Consumer Reports, and they have been dead-on with everything I've drove, bought, considered. Got to be careful though, some of the small jap cars are too small if you are XXL.

Speaking of this. I don't wont to start a new topic but ill hijack this shit since the answer is obvious. I'm lookin for a sporty sedan/coupe that is safe and powerful with a good low end torque. It should cost under 20-22k. Ideas anyone?

P.S. quick reply is broken for me for some unknown reason
