HF LAN #7 - hotels and car rental

Postby K2 » May 25th, 2006 at 4:47 pm

Hey all, HF LAN #7 is coming up soon, about 6 weeks away now. A few ppl have asked me about the best and nearest places to get a hotel room and/or rent a car. Since I just got back from a 5 week deployment, I really have no clue ;) Haven't had time to focus on the LAN til now. So for those of ya that live in the Dallas area, if you could post some links to some maps or websites detailing what's available near the SMU Guildhall campus (The GuildHall at SMU is located at 5232 Tennyson Parkway in Plano, Texas, 75024), we'd all appreciate it.

Post :P

There are several places within a few miles of the campus.

Keith, you might want to give Trish a call. She can point you to several hotels in the area, as she has to book lodging for guest speakers to the school.

do I need to pre register for this event? Will BF2 be played much? I'll play CS but I hate to drive all the way to Dallas (about 4 hrs) and only play CS especially if I end up bringing a group down with me.

How many dedicated servers will be available and if I come down should I bring a BF2 server?

I'd say there is about a 60/40 chance that I'll be able to make it down there right now.

Anyone wanna share a room in the event that I can make it down? I'm going to be a last minute roomate tho, cuz I won't know for sure until a couple days before the event at best. Me = Poor so any $ I can save would help.

DocNsane - we need to coordinate you picking up Keith's server in June. Catalyst, you should configure and bring a server for dedicated bf2 play - that would help Keith out a ton - this machine is setup for CSS only.

K, let me see who all I can get together. I'd really like to go to a LAN party that I'm not hosting for once ;)

If I can make it, I'll bring a BF2 server and some spare stuff just in case i.e. switches, cable, rj45's, crimpers etc. Its going to be pretty if'y until close to time for the LAN tho so don't go counting on me :)

I'll rent the 4th bedroom of our house. Airfare has to be paid by you though each day.

Cata - sounds good, you bringing a dedicated BF2 server will help me out a bunch.

Everyone - we're about a month away now. If you know you're going, and havent signed up yet, you need to do so now. I spoke to our guildhall contact this morning; his crew are gettin ready to hit the signup board in a big way.

Like a lot of you folks, they will probably wait til the last min to sign up. We'll probably even have some just show up without signing up. Doesnt matter to me so long as they pay ;)

Besides, I dont care if it's just a lan of 10 ppl, it'll be fun either way.

FYI - me and Jenn got a room at the townsuites hotel that's closest to the lan. They still have rooms available at that 59/night rate.
