I've got an 8800gt on my work PC which is where I do my folding. Will try to get it up and running Monday when I get back to the office.

Sweet.

I am not sure if you can run the cpu and the gpu client together - I don't see why not though. I havent tried it on my system, because it gets hot enough as is with the GPU being maxed out. If I had some sort of liquid/phase cooled system I'd definitely do it.

On a laptop, I'd say you'll run into heat issues running both at the same time, but I have no problem doing it on my desktop. If you had to choose between CPU or GPU client, I'd go with GPU hands down though... way better PPD.

Can we change our display name without restarting our stats? I got the GPU version running at work, and used the name Nad and also renamed my regular FAH client to Nad. Now on our team stats, we have Nad running stuff and Paul_Upshaw still going as well.

Advice?

Lose 'Nad' - stick with your original username. During setup, you assign a machine ID, which by default is 2. If you want to use the same user profile to run on multiple machines, use the same user ID, but assign a different machine ID for each machine you run on.

Installing this bad boy on the laptop. 8600gtm will be a bit slower, but should still crank em out at a pretty decent pace.

Can't read the error, but I probably wouldn't be much help if I could, as the only client I've ever had problems with and troubleshot is the SMP client. You should check their forums or the wiki (can find a link to both off folding.stanford.edu).

Nad, I've seen that error before when I went from the GUI client to the console version. You should probably reinstall from scratch - delete the F@H folder and all of its contents. Re-download the console client, install it in a completely different location. It can be run from anywhere, but it's best to put it somewhere where the OS wont have any user permission issues (root of C:, anywhere on a secondary drive or partition, etc).

FYI - you're top dog right now as far as most units processed in X number of hrs for the team.

In the last 24 hours, yes. Right now, Jenn still has the best weekly PPD avg.

For some reason, my main box decided to stop folding a couple of days ago and I didn't notice, and I had forgotten to turn folding back on on my laptop after doing some updates etc. My weekly PPD avg. is low now as a result. Usually, I'm hanging tough at the top with Jenn. I did manage to re-borg my 'rents computer though, which should help. I think some bastard techie they called at some point disabled the F@H service.

Dunno if other specs matter, but its a quad core with 4gigs of ram, running an 8800GT. I'm also running the regular F@H client on the same box.

Actually, most folders say you get about 10-25% higher PPD with the same rig while running Vista.

And Nad is now the big folder on the team. Great PPD Nad!

I just added the F@H CPU SMP client to run on my machine in conjunction with the GPU2 client. After about a 6 hour run, I noticed that the GPU client had only worked thru another 5% of it's work unit. The SMP client was at 15%. Usually in that same time span the GPU has burned thru the better part of an entire WU. I think perhaps that the GPU2 client requires at least a lil bit of CPU power to really shine. Sooo, I am gonna back off the CPU SMP client to 85% total cpu usage instead of the default 100% and see if that helps any. If it doesnt, then I'll switch back to running the normal CPU client on just one of my two CPU's (leaving 50% total CPU available) - I ran that scenario overnight and both had made significant progress (70% and 50%).

EDIT - just ran a test of the SMP cpu client at 85% cpu. It's not consistient... the total cpu usage spikes between 70 and 100%, then it'll level off to 85%, then it thrashes up and down again. I don't like that. I am switching back to running just one single-core client in conjunction with the GPU client. I'd like to have the extra number crunching with the SMp client, but not at the expense of system stability and hurting how fast the GPU client can go.

You can run multiple CPU clients off one machine, in addition to the GPU client.

True, but not very well using task scheduler to handle them all the way I want 'em to. One GPU + one CPU client is enough for now. Later on once I get moved, I may setup some of my other boxes that dont have a function at all to be solely dedicated to F@H.
