Come back KC... We miss you... :(

Working on a speech for my public speaking course right now, and have to persuade the class to do something. I decided to pick Folding@Home as my topic. 8)

Ahh... and congrats to Nad on the half million point milestone.

I've been having trouble getting my main rig to run the GPU2 client at 3D clock times. For some reason, it was staying in 2D mode, unless I ran a 2nd GPU2 client on my other GPU, which unfortunately crashes me after about 10 seconds (hardware problem maybe?). Anyhow, I just figured out that if I run the system tray (graphical) GPU2 client instead of the console GPU2 client, it will kick my card into 3D mode. Dunno if anyone else has experienced a similar issue, but on the forums, it seemed common for ATI/AMD users. Perhaps this will help someone.

Also, I've always marveled at the points one of the top folders at OBC claims to post with his NVIDIA GPUs. I've thought, I don't come near that number with my ATI card. Well, was cruising around the F@H Website and found something interesting: It appears that NVIDIA GPUs enjoy a 2x efficiency of scale bonus over ATI cards, if I'm reading the numbers at http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... pe=osstats correctly. Just thought this was interesting.

ty. I finally got around to fixing my old gaming rig that has been out of commission for over a year. I'll try to get F@H running on it today and see what kind of numbers it will crank out.

Damn Paul... I see you're cranking out over 7300+ points a day now. Good job!

Yeah that second rig is pushing almost as much as the first. Now if only we could get more people folding, we might break into the top 500 one of these days.

My system is almost never on these days but I did just load it up and join the team.

Is there a way to run 1 instance of F@H on each core of a dual/quad core? Would it be more productive to do so?

Yes, but you want to leave one core alone (same goes for trying to use all CPU cores w/ GPU as well) otherwise all processes will suffer. So, if you have a dual core CPU like myself, just use one of them. If you have a quad core CPU, I wouldn't setup F@H on any more than three of 'em.

It's kinda a matter of experimentation with PPD tracking, to see what the best setup for your rig is. I'm able to run an instance of f@h on each core in my dual core, and run f@h on each gfx card of mine without a significant ppd hit. I just set the gfx clients to low priority in the -configonly setup and set the cpu clients to idle. My understanding is that many people with quad core processors do find their gfx folding suffers if they run folding on all their cores or using smp.

That said, before KC dropped off the planet, he was getting some great ppd by folding with his gfx card, plus using a linux virtual machine to fold with a smp client, which I would guess helped keep the smp client from taking resources away from the gfx client.

Crazy output though Nad, very nice. Also, grats to Jenn on passing N2 as well.

Right now I'm running 3 of my 4 cores, plus gpu on this rig, and 1 core plus gpu on a second rig, which seems to be working nicely. Gonna tweak it next week to see if I can push 10k/day though.

You've already earned more than 70k pts in the last 7 days, so that goal has already been attained Nad.

If I could figure out why I get so many GPU WUs that simply won't run on my client, giving me unstable machine errors, and thus not giving me any points at all for my 2 GPU clients for days at a time, I'd be pumping out way higher PPD. :(

I can't seem to get my computer to keep it running and processing when I let the system go idle, everything else keeps running but I had 0 progress on my project and I left it running yesterday at times I would have normally shut down. That said I am having some other odd issues with Win 7, like the fact that sometimes when it goes idle it shuts down my USB and monitors, but other times it doesn't. So who knows.

I did, the problem is that sometimes it goes to full standby and others it stays active, not sure why it does whatever it is going to do.

Upgraded the F@H plugin on the main page and fixed the formatting. Displays a lot more info than before. Clicking on our team name takes you to the same comprehensive stats page.
