I'm presuming the people against the bill have citizens like b0ba in mind when they envision what is going to happen when the bill is passed.

Oh come on. So you have to try and run before you're allowed to kill the punk kid that's get'n in your face? Bah...I say the new law is a good one. I'm not gonna lose my place in line at Starbucks just cuz someone is trying to kill me.

Say hello to my little friend

Also, note my post below. I've been a gun owner and NRA member since I was 12yo. My dad told me that if I ever kill someone in the yard, that I should drag them in the house and say that they were trying to get in...

I don't understand why the right to bear arms, much less defend yourself, gets so much flack. The turds on the street don't play by the rules so disarming the public only leads to more deaths and violent crimes. Allow the public to arm and defend themselves with the proper training and safeguards in place and it won't be long before crimes against defenseless people start to decline.

what sort of research is available showing gun crimes in England (where handguns are illegal) vs. USA per capita? I'd be curious, I beleive in right to own guns, but not all types, the 2nd ammendment is the most mis-quoted, mis-used ammendment outside of the 1st imho.

The thing that scares me about this law is the squirrely motherfuckers who are going to get a concealer carry permit, see someone else carrying a gun on the street, and feel "threatened" and try to disarm them, causing a firefight. I sure as hell wouldnt give up my gun for anything less than a cop telling me to put it down, some shmuck pulls a gun trying to get me to drop mine is gonna get lit up, and most of the "street punks" arent good enough with a firearm to effectively use it against someone who is armed and trained with one.

I think we need to look back to the spirit of the ammendment. It was back when America had to forcably seperate itself from the English. They wanted to setup a government where the people ruled. So they made sure that we would always have the right to keep and bear arms. I think they made arms general so that it wouldn't matter what type of gun you had.

I'm not saying that we need militia's and stuff, but I think that civilians should have access to purchase the same kind of assault weapons as our police forces. Full auto's and everything.

Does it mean the cops might get out gunned? If someone is planning on a firefight with cops they're gonna be packing something serious anyway. The only thing gun laws do it take rights away from law abiding citizens.

Certainly, there's a place for comparing laws and their outcomes by comparing different countries, but you've gotta' be really careful to take culture into consideration. We've got a gun-loving culture, while in almost all other comparable Western democracy-style nations, the culture regarding firearms is vastly different. You also have to factor in all sorts of info regarding crime levels and types, blah blah blah. (I'm bored of this response).
