apparently you all have units mixed up... liters do not equal pounds. one is a volume, the other is a weight. weight cannot burn to make more weight (at least on the scale you're putting it).

Most lab rats/mice/animals have it pretty good. Except for the premature demise, we have to keep them fed, watered, stimulated (with toys and stuff), painfree (you have to give them painkillers following surgery), and breeding (if it's a breeding colony). If there's any sign of discomfort in the ani...

Sorry, I missed those questions (had to read all your posts a few times to notice). One last little clarification: I'm not saying that funding is unbiased, it is fundamentally a subjective process... I'm just saying its a few degrees removed from political careers. The career board members are scien...

EML, actually scientists determine which scientists get money. The NIH puts together committees of scientists (although there are some career members) that each go through the thousands of grant applications and determine who gets a slice of the pie. The money does NOT get divided up equally, its ba...

Onward to the government thing. The government isn't in the research "biz". They fund academic research only. As in non-profitable research. And the federal funding is what allows the US to be the leader in academic science. We're talking about mainly the National Institute of Health (or NIH) and it...

Sorry. I forgot I started the thread. Right, so cord blood stem cells (lets just call them cbsc's) are pretty damn cool. They've been shown to be able to act in place of a bone marrow transplant with lower incidence of immune problems, such as graft vs. host disease, even with less of an immune matc...

Sorry... I didn't feel like reading thru a bunch and more posts to figure out what questions you guys wanted answered on what REALLY is going on with stem cell research, whether it's embryonic or adult. So ask me here in this thread. I'll check up and answer as best I can. For those who don't know, ...

xbox360 gamertags?

Anyone here have a 360? Mine just came in the mail (I got a premium version from overstock.com through dealhack.com for $360 shipped). I'm still at work, but if any of you play online or anything, post your gamertag (I'll post mine when I get home and get Live setup).

That 2000 helped me out a lot for the month of Sept. (where the city of New Orleans was closed). I definitely could have used the second check (my roommate decided not to come back to New Orleans, so my rent doubled) but FEMA decided I wasn't worthy. For all the people that needed the money and didn...
